Mahabote, the Burmese little key

Mahabote is the everyday astrology of Myanmar, and it uses no sky at all. Two facts build the chart: the weekday of birth, which gives your planet and your animal — Garuda for Sunday, Tiger for Monday, Lion, Elephant, Rat, Guinea pig, Naga — and the Burmese year, which turns at Thingyan in mid-April and is divided by seven. The remainder names the planet of the first house, and the other six planets follow in a fixed cycle.

The seven houses are Impermanence, Extremity, Fame, Wealth, Kingly position, Sickly and Leader; four are positive and three are liabilities. The reading is where your own planet stands among them. Wednesday is split at noon: the morning belongs to Mercury and the tusked elephant, the afternoon to Rahu and the tuskless one, so a Wednesday birth is the only one that needs an hour.

The app draws the seven houses with your planet outlined, shows the arithmetic that placed them, and names the corner of the pagoda your animal faces.
