Version 1.0 · effective 2026-09-11 · last updated 2026-09-11

Draft for review. Confirm the controller details, retention periods and international transfer wording with a data protection adviser before launch.

1. Controller

Ask the Planets Ltd, [registered address], is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact us about privacy at privacy@asktheplanets.app.

2. What we collect

Account data. Your name, email address, and the sign-in method you used. We never receive or store a password for Google sign-in.

Birth data. Your date, time and place of birth, and the coordinates and time zone that follow from that place. You may also store the same details for friends, partners and, if you are a professional, clients you add.

Usage data. The pages you open, the charts you generate, your questions in the Ask feature and the answers given, your notification preferences, and technical information such as IP address, browser and device type.

Professional data. If you list yourself as an astrologer: your profile text, photo, languages, specialities, rates, availability, and the bookings made with you.

Payment data. Stripe processes card details. We never see or store full card numbers. We store the Stripe identifiers, the amounts, and the status of your subscription or booking.

3. Why we use it, and our legal basis

| What we do | Why | Legal basis | |---|---|---| | Compute your chart and readings | It is the service you asked for | Performance of a contract | | Send the daily reading by email or push | You switched it on | Consent, withdrawable at any time | | Answer questions in Ask | It is the service you asked for | Performance of a contract | | Take payment and prevent fraud | To bill you and protect the service | Contract, and our legitimate interests | | Show an astrologer profile in the directory | You chose to be listed | Consent, withdrawable at any time | | Keep the service secure and working | To run a safe service | Legitimate interests | | Meet tax, accounting and legal duties | We have to | Legal obligation |

Birth data is not, in itself, a special category of personal data under the UK and EU GDPR. We are conscious that it is nonetheless sensitive to you, it can reveal your exact date of birth, and it is treated with care throughout.

4. The Ask feature and AI

When you ask a question, we send your chart summary, the current transits and your recent messages in that conversation to Anthropic, our AI provider, so that a model can compose an answer. We do not send your name, email address or payment details. Our agreement with Anthropic does not permit your content to be used to train models.

5. Who we share data with

  • Stripe for payments and astrologer payouts.
  • Anthropic for the Ask feature, as described above.
  • Resend to deliver email.
  • Apple to deliver push notifications, if you use the iOS app.
  • Neon and Vercel for database hosting and application hosting.
  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim receives the text you type into the city search, so that we can turn a place name into coordinates. It does not receive your identity.
  • Astrologers you book with receive your name, email address, the birth details you choose to give them and anything you write in the booking note.
  • Authorities or advisers where the law requires it, and a buyer if the business is sold, in which case we would tell you first.

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for behavioural advertising.

6. International transfers

Our providers are in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where data leaves the UK or EEA we rely on adequacy decisions or the standard contractual clauses. Ask us at privacy@asktheplanets.app for the detail.

7. How long we keep it

  • Account and birth data: while your account exists, and for 30 days after deletion in backups.
  • Ask conversations: while your account exists, or until you delete them.
  • Booking and payment records: seven years, because tax law requires it.
  • Delivery logs for the daily reading: 12 months.
  • City search cache: 180 days, and it holds no identifier.

Deleting your account removes your profile, charts, people, client records, notes and chats. Records we must keep for tax are retained in a restricted form.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or provide it in a portable form. You can withdraw consent for the daily reading or for the public directory at any time without affecting anything done beforehand.

You can do most of this yourself in your account settings, including deleting your account outright. For anything else write to privacy@asktheplanets.app. If you are unhappy with our answer you may complain to your data protection regulator; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.

If you are in California, you have the rights to know, delete, correct and opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined there.

9. Children

The service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us data, write to privacy@asktheplanets.app and we will remove it.

10. Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit. Access to production data is limited to people who need it. Payment details never reach our servers. No service can promise perfect security, and we will tell you and the regulator, as the law requires, if a breach affects you.

11. Changes

We will post changes here and, if they matter, tell you by email.
