The Four Pillars — Saju (사주) in Korea, Shichū Suimei in Japan. Not planetary at all: a sexagenary calendar whose only astronomy is the Sun crossing each fifteenth degree.

Read right to left: year, month, day, hour. The day stem is the day master — you — and everything else is read against it. Above each stem is its ten god, the relation it bears to the day master; below each branch, the stems it hides and theirs, then the day master's life stage (十二長生) on that branch — the day pillar's own is where the self sits.
Ten gods
| 比肩 Friend | the same as you: peers, self-reliance, rivalry | month branch |
| 劫財 Rob Wealth | competitors and comrades; spending, risk, generosity | hour branch |
| 食神 Eating God | ease, talent, appetite; what you produce without strain | month branch (minor), day branch |
| 傷官 Hurting Officer | brilliance that will not be ruled; performance, rebellion | month stem, year branch (minor) |
| 偏財 Indirect Wealth | windfalls, business, the father; money that moves | day branch (minor) |
| 正財 Direct Wealth | earned income, thrift, the wife in a man's chart | year branch (minor) |
| 七殺 Seven Killings | pressure, force, discipline; the enemy that makes a general | day branch (minor) |
| 正官 Direct Officer | authority, rank, the law; the husband in a woman's chart | year stem, year branch |
| 偏印 Indirect Resource | unorthodox learning, solitude, the stepmother | hour stem |
| 正印 Direct Resource | support, education, the mother; what protects you | — |
Branch relations
| 害 harm | 未子 | year – hour: a quiet undermining between the two |
| 合 combination | 亥寅 | month – day: the two bind: alliance, attachment, a matter held together |
This year · 2026 丙午
丙 is your 偏財 Indirect Wealth — windfalls, business, the father; money that moves.
合太歲: this year combines with your birth year — the Grand Duke binds, which can hold as well as help.
合 with the year branch; 沖 with the hour branch.

| Wood | 27.7% | |
| Fire | 9.9% | |
| Earth | 22.8% | |
| Metal | 9.9% | |
| Water | 29.7% |
Stems count fully, a branch's principal hidden stem fully, the rest at a half and a third. Schools weigh this differently, so the breakdown is shown rather than only a verdict.
Day master
Ren — Water yang, and weak (support 4 against 6.1).
Resource Metal · output Wood · wealth Fire · officer Earth
Favourable: Water and Metal.
Born inside Lidong — Winter begins. The year turns at Lichun, not in January, which is why a birth in late January belongs to the year before.

Ten years each, running backward from the month pillar, beginning at 7.7. Direction is set by the year stem's polarity against sex — here a yin year and a man; the starting age by the distance to the neighbouring sectional term, three days to the year.
