Elements and modes
Fire, Earth, Air, Water; Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable. The chart's weather system.
Four elements
Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) act. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) build. Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) think and connect. Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) feel. Count where your planets fall and the dominant element is your default temperament; the missing one is what you must learn on purpose.
Three modes
Cardinal signs start things, Fixed signs sustain them, Mutable signs adapt them. A chart heavy in Fixed signs finishes what it starts and hates being moved; a Mutable chart is versatile and easily scattered.
Chart shape
The overall pattern of planets around the wheel has a name too: bundle, bowl, bucket, locomotive, see-saw, splay or splash. The app names yours under Shape and balance.
